  • Speaking after the honour was announced, Sir Mansel said: "I feel very humbled to be recognised in this way.

    "I know only too well how my work depends on the support of others - my wife, Angela, and family, and staff in both Cardiff University and the National Health Service.

    "I have worked in public service for much of my life and feel privileged to have had the opportunity to try and make a difference to our society."

    Reverend Dr Jean Prosser, from Abergavenny, has been awarded an MBE for services to conservation and to the community.

    Rev Prosser, a mother of three grown up children and a grandmother to five grand children, set up the Village Alive Trust after renovating a church in

    The conservation group has gone on to renovate 10 listed buildings, and it is currently restoring its third church.

    Rev Prosser, who is priest in charge of the Grosmont parish of churches, said the MBE had come as a "total surprise" to her.
