Rory Elizabeth Katherine Kennedy, the youngest of eleven children of United States Senator Robert F. Kennedy, was born on December 12, , in Washington, D.C., USA.

Her father was assassinated six months before her birth by a Palestinian immigrant named Sirhan Sirhan.

She graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. In the s, Kennedy, along with her university classmate Vanessa Vadim, Jane Fonda and Roger Vadim's daughter, founded a non-profit organization called "Mayday Media," specializing in the production and distribution of socially conscious films.
